Music Ensembles
New College Franklin students have the opportunity to participate in three different musical ensembles: Chorale, Cantus, and Instrumental. The ensembles perform regularly throughout the year at NCF events like Prospective Days and Graduation and in concerts in December and May.
Enjoy these videos of past performances.
Cantus
Cantus is an auditioned ensemble consisting of twelve members, most usually open to Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. They will learn and perform more difficult repertoire from the best of the last 1500 years of music. Cantus members perform and rehearse with Chorale, in addition to their own weekly rehearsal.
Cantus is led by Mr. Greg Wilbur, M.M.
Chorale
The Lord has commanded his people to sing skillfully. Formed in 2020, the New College Chorale is open to all NCF students who want to sing in a choir and learn vocal technique and choral skills. The Chorale meets once a week to rehearse and performs at New College events throughout the year, alongside occasional additional performances, such as Vespers service at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Nashville.
Chorale is led this year by Dr. Kim Keck, D.M.A.
Instrumental Ensemble
The Instrumental Ensemble is open to all New College Franklin students who are instrumentalists. It provides an opportunity to learn how to play with excellence as a group, how to follow a conductor, and how toprepare literature for performance. Repertoire will be varied and will represent the best of orchestral literature from the past 400 years.
Instrumental Ensemble is led by Mrs. Shawn Reed, M.M.
“The best, most beautiful, and most perfect way we have of expressing a sweet concord of mind to each other is by music.”
